Respect where it is due

November 4th, 2008

It’s only human nature to crow about ones achievements (or ones team’s), but sometimes you have to put your hand up in recognition of others

Here’s the definition in Wiktionary, but do you know the term it is defining?

A wise man; a man of gravity and wisdom; especially, a man venerable for years, and of sound judgment and prudence; a grave philosopher.

…………….the answer of course is ‘sage’. So if you were Sage, Britain’s largest software business and you already had a massive share of the accounting software market, and you wanted to persuade people that you had moved on and were more about smart business solutions (not just accounting) what would you do?

Obvious answer – you’d bring back the Krypton factor a massive UK TV show from yesteryear: http://www.itv.com/kryptonfactor/

It always was a game for smart, problem solving people; for Sage to pick it up and comit to sponsorship is a very smart move. Congratulations

Difficult is worth doing…

What is 1,073,741,824 gigabytes?

What is 1,073,741,824 gigabytes?
An Exabyte. A “byte: is a collection of 8 bits. A “bit” is the smallest unit of information that can be stored in a computer, and consists of either 1 or 0 (or on/off state). All computer calculations are in bits.

Bytes are convenient because, when converted to computer mode, they can represent 256 characters, such as numbers or letters. So a byte is 8 times larger than a bit.

Common aggregations for bytes come in multiples of 1,000, such as kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte, and so on. The progression is as follows:

Bit (b)1 or 0
Byte (B)8 bits
Kilobyte (KB)1,000 bytes
Megabyte (MB)1,000 KB
Gigabyte (GB)1,000 MB
Terabyte (TB)1,000 GB
Petabyte (PB)1,000 TB
Exabyte (EB)1,000 PB
Zettabyte (ZE)1,000 EB
