Timberland » Boat Shoe advertising

  • Brand Advertising

After the classic 6 inch yellow boot, the boat shoe is probably Timberland’s most famous product and the company has been making them since 1979.

Nearly 30 years later, we created a boat shoe advertising campaign, focussing on three aspects of Timberland’s premium range – the stitching, the laces and the ‘siped’ sole.

Research into the product revealed some interesting facts that demonstrate the depth of craftsmanship behind the product: the stitches on the shoes are, in fact, knots; the laces come from a specific tannery in Auburn, Kentucky; and the idea to cut razor-slits in the soles to aid grip came from an abattoir worker in the 1920’s who was fed up slipping about in, well, let’s just say he didn’t want to fall over anymore.

With luscious photography and some intriguing copy, our ads appeared in a number of countries and revealed a bit of the history of these timeless classics.
