1st July 2000 may not have been the most significant day in history (the best the BBC On This Day website can come up with is millionaire novelist Ken Follett having a pop at Tony Blair and calling spin doctors “the rent boys of politics”), but for us it was a real red letter day; it was the day we were founded. So yesterday, we celebrated our 10th birthday and raised a glass of the fizzy stuff to toast our future.
So what’s the picture below all about? It is in fact the Oresund Bridge that connects Sweden and Denmark. It opened for traffic on… yes, 1st July 2000.
